Original Item: Only One Available. An Imperial Japanese one piece winter flying suit offered in very good original condition. Features superb light brown rabbit fur collar while the body of the suit is lined in white fleece. The shell is made from brown cotton which shows some staining and wear from honest use. Suit has all original zips fitted to both sleeves, ankles and also to the double breast pockets, used for storing maps, pistol and personal items. All zippers function flawlessly with exception of the hip pocket zippers and the trouser cuff zippers which have been cut down in order to shorten the legs of the suit (a period alteration).
Original waist belt is present and includes the nickeled buckle. The inside storm flap of the jacket carries the original Japanese factory manufacturing details in stamped ink, which is nicely legible. One of these is marked with the date 昭 和 十 八 年. This would be read: SHOWA (current reigning emperor) Juu-Hachi Nen (18th year of reign - 1943).
In addition, the trousers feature fur lined pockets to both knees. The electric plug, which was used to power the electrical heating elements inside the suit, has been removed. These suits were used primarily by Japanese bomber and fighter pilots during the cold weather months and for high altitude missions.
Offered in overall excellent complete condition. Size is approximately a US 3. These are extremely rare.
